SHIPPING AND COMMERCE.

In acknowledging tho receipt of a copy of the "Annual Review" for 1910-1911 of New Zealand Shipping and Commerce, it affords us pleasure to be able-to record a very marked improvement oyer last year's production. In volume it is increased by GO pages, and now contains 210 pages royal quarto. Tho statistical section covers fifteen months' exports, ending as at June 30, 1911, every item exported being carefully detailed, showing port of shipment, destination, and the names Of vessels on which respective lines are shipped. There is also shown in a clear fashion monthly as well as yearly .figures giving values and quantities as shipped at each port. These are tabulated and so placed that comparison with the previous year's operations is a work of extreme simplicity. Tho figures relating to the importations info New Zealand for the year aro alphabetically arranged iu tabulated form. Eighty-two pages are devoted to tho statistical section. Several thousands of the edition havo been reserved for foreign distribution. Tho second edition of tho "Annual" is a most attractive one. It contains over one hundred half-page illustrations printed on art paper from halftone photo process blocks, and embraces the most important phases of tho Dominion's commercial oud shipping life. In this special attention lias bt-e.ii given to the frozen meat, dairying, coal, kauri gum, .and wool industry. Another attractive feature in the illustrated section is that devoted to tho harbours of Now Zealand. The harbours of Wellington, Auckland, and New Plymouth have been specially dealt with, and a large number of very lino half-page illustrations aro given. Those interested"in New Zealand's commerce should be greatly, interested in this very useful and attractive publication, and tho publishers, the New Zealand Shipping Gazette Co., Ltd.,' should reap tho reward that their enterprise deserves.
