COMMERCIAL ITEMS.

INVESTMENT SHARES. There were na transactions in investment shares yesterday. The buyius .and felling quotations were as under:—

FROZEN MEAT. Quietly and unobstrusively there are changes going on in the moil trade. Now Zealand still holds first position.as regards quality, and. as fur as the lamb trade i 3 concerned, the bulk of the shipments received in Great. Britain come from this Dominion. With respect to mutton and beef, however, we are hopelessly beaten. The figures giving the imports into the United Kingdom for the year ended June 30, 1911, taken from Dalgcty and Company's London circular are interesting:— Mutton Lamb Beef carcasses. carcasses.quarters. New Zealand 1,921.603 • 3,426,000 • 242.000 Australia, ... 2,089,600 1.646.250 569.750 River Plato 3,069,550 804,675 1,458,000 7,080,650 5,877,125 2,269,750 The shipments during the current year from New Zealand are bound to be less because there is a- decrease of over half a, million in the number of sheep, and the wool clip will also be smaller. Unless the prices foT these staple products arc higher, the income from meal and wool is sure to be less than in the past year. 'FARMERS' FIRE INSURANCE.
