THE WELLINGTON EXECUTIVE. (By Telcprraph.—Special Corresnondent.) ; . Palmerston North, August 2t, The executive of the Farmers'- Union for the. Wellington province met at Palmerston North to-day. Present: Mr. J. G. Wilson (chairman), Messrs. J. J. Birch (Xiarton), 'J. Morrison (Ilalconibo), K. W. Dalrymplo .(Bulls), Alex. Howie (Waverley), W.--B. -Mutheseu (Ekotahunn), H. Kevins (Tcnui), 11. liooth (I'eilding), Captain Hewitt- (JfalmurstonjNotth). 'J'he remits.pl-.sapdat the Dominion Conference, and referred to the provincial executives, were, considered. It was resolved to s?ud a circular to branches regarding the fostering of cow testing. . ' The president reported on the remit re forming an association for the protection of producers' interests in regard to frozen and other produce, which remit had come up at-the conference held in connection with tho matter, and the.following resolution was passed:— (I) "That, SMiiiij,' Iku importance of the meat industry to tho whole Dominion, it is imperative that accommodation should bo secured promptly for handling our meat nt the new South-West India Docks, and that a representative should be on tho spot to watch the arrangements; (2) (hat.evidence of this should be- laid before the Stock Committee of tho House, urging the passage of a Bill authorising the payment of the necessary amount for securing such accommodation, tho same to be recouped by a oharge of ■ Jd. on each carcass killed for export." On ths remit regarding local experiments with manures, crops, and fodder, it was resolved to circularise the branches urging" them to take this matter up in thoir districts.

6a the matter of appointing a "Farmers' Union day," the executive thought that it would bo difficult to suggest a. day that would suit the various localities, but recommended branches to hold a function annually in order to give the members and their families an interest in the Union.. The motions passed at the Dominion Conference, re' a Farmers' Political Protection Federation, were endorsed, and the {(iiestions relating to the platform for submission to candidates were approved. It was resolved that Mr. D: Jones be invited to give a serie; of addresses on behalf of tho union in the Wairarapa district, and then to visit the Wnverley, YTanganni, Eangitikei, and Jlanawatu branches. The remit re commission on dairy stock, viz.:- "That tho rate of 5 per cent, on dniry stock (whether by auction or private sale) is an oiwssive Mid nnjiist tax on (he dairy industry." was discussed. Protests, against tho Shearers' Accommo dation .Amendment Bill were received from the WaTiganui and Huntervillo branches. The following.motion was passed,.and is to be forwarded to members of the House: "That the varied conditions under which shearing is carried on during the summci weeks in the Dominion make it impossible ta lay down any hard and fast lines such as are prepared in the proposed Bill, and that this executive of .the Farmers' "Onion protests against such a Bill being passed into law." The Industrial Conciliation end Arbitra, tion Amendment Bill was considered, and it was resolved that Section 8 of tho proposed Bill (which repeals Section 19 of the .
