CITY COUNCIL.
rORTNIGIITLY MEETING. The" fnrtniglitly nicotine of the Wellington City Council was held last night. There wero present: The Jlayor (Mr. T. '11. Wilfonl), Councillors Siuilh, Cohen, Trevor,' Atkinson, .Godber, Barber, Fitz gerald, Cameron, MTiciizio, Uindmarsh, M'l.aren, Shirtcliffe, Fletcher, and Frost. On Ilio recommendation of the Bathe ami City Reserves Committee,, it was resolved:—"That the propofal of itr. G. E. Tolhurst, to dedicate a portion of his land at the Wadestown Head as road, provided the council throw a small pieco of Town Belt into tho road at this point, bo agreed to, subject to tho conditions imposed by tlto City Engineer, Sir. Tolhurst to carry out the work of removing tho lidgo to tho approval of tho City Engineer, the council ( not; being put to any expense whatever."' The fallowing recommendations of tho Finance and Properly . Committee were adopted:—(l) That payment of half wages from tl>3 date of his accident, less payments silrraily received, bs made to a corporation employee, who received an injury resulting iff , the lass of an eye, and that he bo allowed to again commenco work. (2) That seven ratepayers be granted loans :on the deferred payment system, in order to carry out drainage w6rks,.the .applicants being without funds. :.. A notice was instructed to bo served on the owner and occupier of premises, No. 120 Ghu/.nee Strcot, to cany out repairs to same, as recommended by the Department of Public Health, and a condemnation notice to bo served with respect to awash-house at tho same address. Tho recommendations of the Tramways Committee, that bonuses bo paid to con- ; ductors for til? quarter ended July 11, that a claim for less of time and wages on account of nn early morning tram failing to connect with a Hutt train bo not recognised, and that three ccich workers in the Tramways Department bo granted an increase in wages in accordance with tho carpenters' award, were agreed to. Tho condition upon which a propertyoinior will allow a public drain to go through his section at Northland was agreed to, viz., that there shall bo no sump, man-hole, lamp-hole, etc., m tho soiver on his property; rtud also that ho, bo informal that.should tho sewer require to , be encased in concrete under any building likely.to be erected, such vt-rk will be don? by the corporation when required. Regarding tho question of the proposed Minimum Frontage By-law from the Outlying Districts Comniittoe (upon which committee the Hataitai Municipal Electors' Association recently requested that a by-law bs passed fixing the minimum fronlago of sections in future subdivisions in the outlying districts at 40 feet), tho By-Laws Committee reported that it had no recommendation to make.
Mr. C. Eggie was appointed assistant sanitary inspector, and Mr. F. Varnoy was appointed an assistant inspector in the plumbing inspector's office. Tho latter appointment was rendered necessary through the resignation of Mr. W. H. Honour, chief plumbing inspector.
