RACING Gurus AXD A. AND P. SOCIETIES. 'L'lie Minister for Agriculture was asked recently by Mr. V. M. 11. i/ither, M.1 , ., whether, in view of the large amount of money now derived irom the racing clubs of the Dominion, they will endeavour to have a jrartion oi' this money "allocated for distribution amongst the various agricultural and pastoral associations —by way of subsidy based <m a percentage: in the pnund on the total annual subscriptions of members—for the purpose of enabling tho.se associations to incri'n.-.e their prize money, so a; to encourage horse-breeding and generally to assist I lie agricultural and pastoral interests in this direction. In replying, the Minister said the. Government is very desirous of encouraging horse-brecdinif on proper line 5 . It is, however, probable that any monetary assistance that may be given could, with greater advantage to the settlers generally, be devoted to establishing a system of subsidies for approved sriuml stallions on linos similar to those upon which the Kipg's premiums are granted at Home. The whole matter is now being considered bv the Government.
