MASTERTON NOTES.

Masterton, August 23. One Maslcrton land agent reports having disposed of seven local properties during the present month. At .a meeting of directors of the Wairarapa Caledonian Society last week, it was decided to make certain important additions to tho 'prize money for amateur events,, at the next sports. Mr. J. H. Pauling, has given notice to move, at a special meeting of the society, that the whole' of the' amateur increases be struck out. An interesting discussion is likely to follow on this motion.
Beautiful spring weather continues in the AVairarnpa, and the prospects of the district never looked brighter. , The snowon the Tnraruns is slowly disappearing. The following Wairarnpa team of golfers will play their annual match with the Wellington Club on tho ■ Heretauosa links on Saturday next:—Messrs. J. C. Bidwill, W. E. Biuwill, AY. H. Robieson,' C. T. Fenwick, A. B. Lawrence, I\ H. Choate, AV. H. Booth, A. B. Balfour, A. K, Sclatiders, C. ; Perry, B. Booth, G. Hume, F. Bladen, A. J. Toogood, and J. Steele. . : . ' .' . A "social" and dance, in aid of the. funds- for the erection of a. public hall was hold at Kaituna last evening, when there was a large gathering of settlers. A site has been given for the hall by Mr. J. Taylforth, and it is honed that the erection of the building will shortly be proceeded with.
