There' is a, decrease this year of £108,015, ami is in keeping with the tendency displayed during the past five or six months. WELLINGTON WOOLLEN COMPANY. The balance-sheet of the Wellington Woollen Company, for the year ended July 31 last, was circulated last evening. The directors, in their report, say:—"The result of the twelve months' working permits the directors to recommend the payment cf a dividend for the past six months of 4 per cent-.. 5 absorbing £<614, and making. with the interim dividend to January 31 last, 1 per ceiii. for the year, on both ordinary and preference shares, leaving £3424 6s. 2d. to be carricd forward. Tlie plant and'buildings liave, as usual, been maintained in an efficient state out of iievenue. and the sum of .£3500 has been written off for depreciation. The addition of £10,633 15s. 6d. to property accounts covers yarn-producing machinery for increased output, with tho necessary building accommodation at Petone, and a fivestory steel and conerctc extension at the Wellington warehouse and clothing factory, which fives much required space for the more economical working ol tho company's business, and increased comfort for the employees." The gross profit for tho year amounted to .£21,242 15s. 9d., as compared with £23,836 6s. 7d. ill' 1919. With rents ar.d transfer fees tho total income was £21,287 3s. 9d., as against. £23,836 12s. Id. in the previous year. The expenses of management absorbed £9552 75., ar.d £3500 was written off for depreciation, making a total of £13,152 75.. as compared with £13,292 lis. 6d. ill the previous year. Celery is in extra strong demand, and up to 4s. per dozen has been obtained fcr choice white. Pumpkins ore in short eupply, and are briflgius 10s. to 13s, per sack.

Gent table potatoes arc selling nt £'1 to £4 7s. 6d. per ton. Seed potatoes: "Up-to-Datc," £.i to £5; "Pcauty of Hebron" and "K-arlv Rose," £3 to £9 10s.: "Northern .Star," £6 to £5 10s.; kidneys, £B to £8 lf-.i. Flour-New Zealand flour, best- quality, £8 1C«.: second duality. £8 ss. per ton. f.o.h. i.ouih, and less the customary discounts. I'ollnrd lias declined in value, and is now selling locally at £6 to £5 Ss.per ton. Urnn continue:; steady at £5 10s. to £5 15s. c:; store. Poultry.—There is a good demand for all classes. Hens, 3s. to 4s. a pair; cockerels, 3s. 6d. to =3.; ducks, ss. to 65.; turkey gobblers, 3d. to 9:1. per lb. live weight; liens, dd. to 7d. per lb. Fruit—The Mocraki is due from Sydney to-dry. with only a moderate shipment of oranges, mandarins, pineapnles, and lemons, for this market. The Warriraoo is due from llobart and Melbourne with a. shipment of apples, comprising Tasmanian. French crab. Stunners, stone pipnins, russets, and Scarlet Pcarraains. At the auction sales yesterday cxcall-nt prices were obtained for Motueka fruit, up to 9s. 9d. being obtained for choice Stunners. WHEAT AND FLOUR. O. liiclit, of Magdeburg, in his monthly- circular, states that the production of beet sugar in Europe during the 1910-1911 campaign, which began- on September 1, shows an increase of 814,CC0 tons as compared with the previous campaign, lie estimates that the total amount produced during the current campaign will be about 8,121,000 tons, or an increase'of 1,963,000.
CANTERBURY GRAIN MARKET. ; (By Telegraph.-Press Association'.! Gnrisichurch,' August 22. The. local wheat market is very' Ami, but merchants are doing among themselves the only business that is being transic'jrt. The wheat, in the hands of growers is being firmly hold, and they are not caring to sell under 3s. 6d. at country stations —a price that is above the present market level. Oats are being inquired for, but the short stocks, in both town ami country, are being firmly held, so that supnlies are very difficult to obtain. Chaff is without change, and tho prico rem.iina at 80s. on trucks. The potato market is quiet in conseouence of the northern markets being again well supplied from the south. The prices offered to growers are 475. 6d. to 50s. at country stations. Ths fine weather of this month has caused an active retail demand for all kinds of seeds for immediate sowing.
, BUTTER AND CHEESE PEICES. (By Telegraph--Pre" Associatloij.i □ iinsclin, August. 22. Mr. J. E. Scott, secretary of the. South Island Dairy Association, reports that the cheese market is still strong. Buyers now offer sixpence on trucks—an advance of about, cue-sixteenth of a penny on sixpence f.o.b. Several sales have been made at sixpence f.o.b. London letters received, dated July 14, speak of the disastrous condition of pastures in the United Kingdom and Northern Europe through dry weather, o,nd the hope is expressed that rain might come, but Mr. Scott, points out that this hope lias been dispelled by the High Commissioner's cablegram published yesterday, which refers to continuous drought.
