THE WEATHER.
FORECAST AND SUMMARY. Present indications are for increasing westerly winds, cool and chanfteable weather, showery in parts, especially on the West Coast and southern districts. The barometer, is very unsteady. Tho barometer has risen and fallen slightly in the north, but fallen slowly in the south. Westerly breezes have prevailed, and very squally at times in Foveaux Strait. Fair weather has predominated. D. 0. BATES. Wanganui, August 22.—Du1l day, with cold southerly wind. • Shannon, August 22,-The weather is fine and bright. Otald, August 22,-Fine. .. Mastcrton, August 22.—The Bev. A. Hodge reported at six o'clock to-night for the previous 24 hours as follows:—Shade temp., max. 59dcg., min. 27deg., mean, 43 dog.; earth radiation, 23.5deg., being 7.sdeK. frost; earth temperature (Ift. below ground), 48.5d0g.; wind, light N.; weather, bright, clear, keen day. Foatherston, August 22.—Frost in morning, fine day following. Hastings, August 22—This morning there was a light frost, followed by a delightful clear day.
