ALLEGED UNLAWFUL KILLING.
ACCUSED BEFORE THE COUBT. William Francis Dowman appeared at the Magistrate's Court yesterday morning, before Mr. W. G. lliddcll, S.M., charged with having (on or about August 19) unlawfully killed Joliu William Long. ■'In this case," said Chief 'Detective Broberg, "tho accused was arrested lalo last night. 1 ask fdr a remand till tomorrow week (August 30). Tho man Long died yesterday morning (Monday) from injuries alleged to have been received through a push from tho accused." Mr. Jackson' stated that ho had no objection to a remand being granted. He might have to ask for a further remand when tho accused carao up again. Ha asked for bail. , ITis Worship: "I am not prepared to grant bail at this stage." At tho inquest on the deceased, which was opened by Dr. M'Arthur on Mondov afternoon, Alice Long (wife of ilio deceased) stated that tho body in the' morgue was that of her husband. . "I saw him last alivo on Monday morning," she continued. "He was then iu bed. He was foaming at the mouth. This was about 3 a.m. I then went to bed. He was not in tho snmo TOom. I got up again at i a.m., saw him, and ho was dead then. I 6cnt William Down for a doctor, but no doctor arrived. After 5 a.m. I sent Thomas Jl'Gregor for the. police." Tho inquest was then adjourned till Monday at 10.30 a.m.
