ASSOCIATION.
Wellington's Association football players were favoured with boautiful weather and good grounds for Saturday's matches. There were only three senior fixtures played owing to Thistle defaulting to Hospital and St. John's defaulting to Diamonds. The marches played had no bearing on tho championship, which has been won by Swifts, and as. there is only one more Saturday before Challenge Cup contests commence, practically speaking very little interest was taken in tile games. Following are the results of the first division matches Ramblers 4 Corinthians 0 Swifts 7 Wanderers 3 .Rovers 4 Y.M.C.A. 2 SWIFTS-WANOEHERS. Kelburue Park was the scene of ah encounter between Swifts and Wanderers on Saturday afternoon, and after a closelycontcsted game, played in tho best of spirits, Swifts were returned victors by 7 goals to 3. At' HrtObMtfcfcHSiriftiT attacked strongly, and but for Garnett (in goal) WandereTS would have had two goals scored against them during the first couple of, minutes. By consistent play, however, the MaToons- were enabled to score. The ball was nicely centered by Roberts, and Vessey opened tho scoring account for his side. This reverse livened Wanderers up considerably, and for .a few minutes Swifts' citadel looked to be in clanger. However, the chance was thrown away, and, like a shot, play was transferred to the opposite end, only to be again transferred back owing to a concerted acti6n by Wanderers' forwards. At this juncture Pye-Simith mis-kicked, and Hughes, taking the opportunity offered, shot true, thus equalising the score. Not to be denied, however, the Maroons again attacked and this time Rickerby put in a "centre," which Vesse.v caught neatly on his foot, and the ball landed in the net. Shortly , afterwards Barry was responsible for the third goal just as halftime was called. The game had hardly commenced again before Trevethick made a splendid run up the right wing, and beating two or three opponents shot at point-blauk range, and scored. Swifts now asserted themselves, and the fourth, goal was registered. From a melee in front of the Wanderers' ■ goal, Parsons, fullback for Bed and White, accidentally put the ball through—Swifts, 4'; Wanderers, 2. A few minutes of give and tako play ensued, when Mattingly let his side down very badly by waiting for the ball to come to him. The nippy little outside-left for anderers (Rodgers) being on the spot in an instiint evened mutters somewhat, with a good shot. This was practically tho last of any good play, tlio Swifts men not seeming t'o take tlio game seriously at all. Tho handful of spectators present wero treated (o little bits of amusement by the players indulging in comic incidents. Rickerby landed the fifth goal for i tho Maroons, and the ?amt player was responsible for the sixth also, 11. Graves brought the. total up to seven with a lucky shot and tho ganio ended shortly afterwards. In the closing stages Parsons, full-back for Wanderers, was car-' ried off the field having twisted his. ankle. Mr. J. lnce was referee.
RAMBLERS-CORINTHIANS. There was a fair attendance at tho Basin Reserve on Saturday to watch tho gamo between Kamblers anfl Corinthians. Tho lat :er were without tho service of somo of their usual players, and tho substitutes were often out of position, and left openings which Kamblers quickly seized. Uarly in the game Campbell secured in a handy position, and scored Ramblers' lirst goal. A series of attacks were instituted by Ramblers' forwards, and many shots wero tried, "but only two succeeded in passing tho goal-keeper, both shot by Campbell, who was always in readiness, being well supported by Hart and Kirschberg. The spell was harren of result for Corinthians; in fact, they only reached Ramblers' inner defences three times, and Ives, the leader, owing to lack of support, had little chance. With three goalls to their credit at the end of the first spell, it looked a walkover for Ramblers, but the second spell was contested upon more equal terms, and Corinthians (helped by the wind) kept up a vigorous bombardment. Ramblers' goal, however, was kept intact, most of tho shots being badly directed and lacking finish. Ramblers freed themselves for awhile, but without result, and Ives, with a good lone effort, brought matrors back to Ramblers' territory, Corinthians' forwards proving no match for the opposing backs. A strong shot, by Corinthians was fruitless, and Ramblers, though for tho most part hemmed in, weTe able to suecessfullv keep the enemy at bay. About half-way through the spell Kirschberg dribbled well down the field, and raised Ramblers' total to four goals. Again Corinthians attacked (Crouch putting in a good ccntre), but to no effect. A penalty shot camo to Ives just after, but his kick failed, and, though Corinthians struggled gamely till time, there was no further score, the game ending: Ramblers, 'I; Corinthians, nil. Mr. Clodber was referee. ROVERS V. Y.M.C.A. Play at times was very patchy in tho game between Rovfrs and Y.M.C.A. at I)uppa Street on Saturday, and seldom offered any brilliant features. Rovers were easily superior in combination, and the play of their opponents was somewhat scrappy and uneven. In t.he first 1 l'i 1 f Rovers played with an advantage of wind, and were not long in setting up a. brisk attack. liowe netted the first, goal early in tho game, and a fnv minuses lator shot another from a scramble in the Y.M.C.A. goal-mouth. Y.M.C.A. now tried hard to retaliate, but were unable to piorce the determined defence of their
opponents. Tho ball was soon again in close proximity to the Y.M.C.A. goal, and O'Slien had a successful shot. AYitli three goals on the wrong hide of the account Y.M.C.A. now made an effort, and shifted play into opposition territory. Phillips w;i.i pulled up for oil-side pln.v, but Uod.-nlve just afterwords found an opening, and, Irom short range, shot tho first goal for Y.M.C'.A. Following upon i this Croft (Hover:-) was conspicuous in a line individual effort, and passed to O'Sliea, who put the leather through, but as lie was oft'-sido the goal was disallowed. Nothing daunted, Rovers continued lo press, and, gavo the defence considerable trouble for a time, lill play was tranferred to tho other end. Here Y.M.C'.A. secured a corner, and Murphy placed well to Shaw, who headed ill the second goal for Y.M.C.A. Immediately attrr the stripes were awarded a penalty-kick against which Hovers vigorously protested. Protests were unavailing, however, and Godsalvo relieved the tension with a very weak effort. Shortly before tho call of timo Rovers scored a fourth goal from a scramble in the goal-111 iuth. No further score resulted, the final l.eing •t—2, in favour of Rovers. Mr. F. Lb.ydon was tho referee. JUNIOR MATCHES. Tho results of tho junior matches wero as follow:— , Second Division.
