4 SAND AND SniNGIJJ TROUBLE AT AUCKLAND. Tho deadlock in connection with th* supply of shingle and sand still prevails, and tho position on Thursday was unchanged (says the Auckland "Herakl" of Friday). Some 50 boats are now laid up, and every additional day adds to tho seriousness of the outlook. All concrete v.ork in connection with the harbour works is at a standstill, and the services of 50 men havo bien dispensed with. Pile-making has had to 1)9 discontinued, owing to the supplies of sand and shingle having been cdiausled, and consequently the progress cf the harbour works will be retarded. The effect of tile trouble on the building trade was referred to Ijy ilie seweU'ry of the Auckland Builders' As oeiation in conversation with a reporter. He stated that as far as the building trade was concerned the effect, was not yet very feiious, as most, of the contr:iet.n\; still had sand and shingle available. In any rase, the trouble was only felt in contracts where the foundations were being made, or ferro-concrete work was in progress.
