LODGE MEETING.

The Island Bay Lodge. U.A.0.D.. held its usual fortnightly meeting last Thursday evening. There was a good attendance. Three new members were initiated. The thanks of the lodge were accordcd to P.A. Bro. Woodcock, of Coronation Lodge, who, in the absence of the J.P.A., officiated at the initiation ceremony. ilt was reported that matters in connection with the anniversary social oil Tuesday, August 22, were veil in hand, and everything pointed to a successful gathering. After the business was transacted a pleasant evening was spent with St. Hilda's Club in cards and supper. The usual weekly session of t.lie Eclipso Lodgo of Good Templars was held last Friday evening. Bro. Jr. Jlorris, C.T., presided. One new member was proposed. After routine business the lodge was thrown open. A large number of visitors entered. Bro. A. B. Thomson, Grand Counsellor, gave an interesting address on "Reminiscences of Early Queensland." Ho was listened to with great attention, and was accorded a very hearty vote of thanks. Members of the Kia Ora Lodge from 11.M.5. Challenger were present, and conveyed greetings from various lodges. Next.'meeting is the commemoration, -of tho lodge's ninth birthday. ■ In the Houso of Commons Mr. E. Cecil asked the Postmaster-General whether, in view of tho dissatisfaction caused now postage stamps, ho would consider tlw question of a. fresh issue, with a new portrait of the King. Mr. Herbert Samuel informed the lion, member in reply, that tho portrait of his Majesty wasengraved from a special photograph. Ho was disappointed tliat the result, should not have been more successful. Ha agreed that there was room for improvement in the printing of the jienny stamps, and ho was in communication with tho contractors on th.s snbject.
