The annual general niMing of the Lawn Tennis Club, to have been held, on Friday night, lapsed for want of a quorum, only three members attending.. The sneak-thi-f is evidently still busy here, and among the latest to be. missed are several bowl?, taken from the Bowling Club's pavilion. The police, however, hop? to run the miscreant to earth in tlio course of a very short time. FEATHERSTON. "That a man's personal influence is determined by his character rather than by his wealth" was the subject o'ohatcd liotwffn the Carterton and Featherston Debating Societies here on Friday night. The visitors took the affirmative, and were adjudged the winners by a small margin. For Hie Feathcrslon Club, the speakers were:—Messrs. \\\ G. Miller, K. B. Tait. A. C. Holms, P. jracdonnid, and •T. H. FieUlhouse. Mr. .T. T. H. Honisby netrtl as judge. Tho visitors and l.nly fricmls of the local members were entertained during the evening. A claim for compensation «&>r. tho Public "Works Act has been made by Mr. I). C. Yule, a well-known seHlo 1 * hero, against tho Featherston County Council for damage alleeed to be caus-cl bv the erection of a ston-bank on the Tauherinikau Biver. The amount of claim is .ilfl'ift. The council has served notice of non-admission.
