BUTTER PROSPECTS.
I FOB THE CO.MJ.XG SEASON. IBy Telecraph-Trcsa Association.! Palmerston, August IS. The well-known iLomlon produce iir.'.i of Mills and Sparrow wrilo ns follows to Mr. E. Griffiths, their New Zealand representative, on the butlor prospects for Ilia coming season: —You will remember wo mentioned a few days back that we had somo rain, but now the dry weather, not only in England and Ireland, but also in Siberia and Hie Continent, i> again with us and continues. Continental supplies are decreasing, and we fully anticipate that this will be the care with the Home and the- Irish make al?n, unless wo pet some alteration in the weather conditions. If wo wore to take the conditions as they stand to-day, we should be talking all sorts of prices in the near future; but, as we mentioned previously, conditions change so quickly that we hesitate to speak too strongly or become too optimistic. But while we endeavour to keep our optimism- down as much as possible, yet we. have to confess ■ that wo Me no daylight ahead or any lower prices for samp very considerable time; in fact, the reyerao is the case. We look for higher prices than we are makin? to-day; and we feel that every packageof butter which is here on this side, and which has been left over from various, steamers when the quantity coming to hand was in excess of the requirements, even .though they are of a secondary character, will be required ; anil when the fino butter which we hope wJlLsoon be sent from the colonies comes to baud, th,eii there will be.au exceptional demand and-good prices, 'made; IVe'think that everything points tothe'coniing season being an • exceptionally good one for our friends in tho Australasian colonies. We never felt so confident as we do at the present moment as to the , future of the colonial trade.'
