Tlio second Cinderella dance of the seasou was held at St. Augustine's Hall, Petone, last night, and proved very successful. Tbero were about 80 people present. ' Tho Bey. W. 1!.. Wainwright, who has been appointed to tho charge of Petoiie Baptist Church, was formally welcomed at a "social" in tho church' schoolroom last evening. Mr. \Y. Wcarne, local manager for Messrs. George and George's Petone branch, has resigned his position in order to take up. a similar position for the Union Clothing Company. Tho monthly mcc'tins; of tho Petono District High School Committed was held last evening. Present: Messrs. D. M'Keuzin (chairman), Medhurst, Hill, Thomson, Hcwson, and Kirk. Tho headmaster reported that tho number on the roll at tho beginning of the month was 737; admitted during the month, IS; withdrawn, 13; on the roll at the end of tho month, 742 i average attendance, 587. Tho low attendance was due to measles. On the motion of Mr. M'Kenzie, it was resolved to draw tho Education Board's attention to tho fact that tho attendance had gone down owing to the epidemic mentioned, and also, to a certain extent, to tho bad stale of the playground, and to ask that thero be no alteration in the school capitation. On tho motion of the Rev. Mr. Thomson, (lie secretary was instructed to write to the secretary of the Education Board, and endeavour to procure further information as' to what was tho position in refcrmc.3 to representation on ths board. Mr. Thomson staled that tho schools in the Hutt Valley were practically disfranchised. Tho small schools in tliii Manawatu outvoted them every time. At tho Lower Hutt Court yesterday morning, three iirst offenders, ench charired with insobriety, were convicted and discharged. Mr. Wilkins, .T.P., was on tho Uonch.
