THE COMING ELECTIONS.

MASTEfiiTON., During his visit to' Masterton, Mr. W. I-'-. Massey interviewed' the two candidates standing in the Opposition interest for the ' Masterton .electorate (states the "Age").- A- suggestion was. made .that eiher'. Mr. Sykes or Mr. Herbert should retire, but there appeared to be difficulties'in the. way, and it was eventually decided that both candidates should go to the poll, each undertaking, should ■there be a second ballot, to throw the full weijrht of !iis influence in favour of the remaining Opposition candidate. If tho , party of reform is loyuJ to itself and the country, it will not mind a second visit to tho polling bootih, and will vote solid for the candidate who proves to be the strongest at ,fh.o first, ballot.

PATEA. ' Mr. P. O'Dca, of Hawera, has made a statement to -Hie effect that the report that ho is prepared to stand down, in favour of the Hon. T. Mackenzie for the I'atea scat is incorrect. BULLEK. It .has been stated in the south that Mr.: Colvin, tho member for Buller, will probably havo a walk-over at election time. The fact, however, appears to be that there will be'an Opposition candidate in the person of Mr. l-ergus Munro, a well-known business man of Westport. At - the last election, Mr. Munro stood as . an Independent,' and was 982 votes behind the sitting member, but he is now definitely identifying himself with the Iteforw Party.
