DRILL HALLS WANTED.
MIRAMAB BOIJOTJGJI COUNCIL AND THE GENERAL. In connection with General Godlcy s reference in his report lo Parliament to the inadequacy ol' the drill-hall accommodation at present provided for the trainin;; of our Territorials, the following letter received from the General bj Minuuar Borough Council at its meeting last evening is evidence that the Delenca Department: is anxious to improve matters with, if possbile, the active co-opera-tion of Iho municipalities:— . "I havo (lie honour to ask your kind, co-operation, help, and assistance in tho training of the Senior Cadets and leiritorial Forces now being organised, throughout the Dominion. It is. important that the facilities for training in elementary- drill and indoor instruction close lo t'lio homes of those liable to (raining, and must bo provided for at an early dale. Willi the largo rapemlituro on absolutely neees.-ary equipment, etc., and tho'reijuisite storage oi tho samo it will be impossible during the current financial year to obtain iunds to erect all the necf-siry local drill-shed accommodation. Fortius reason 1 now appeal to you in full confidence in the interest of iho training of (lie youth of the Dominion and the formation of our citizen army to assist me by temporarily placing at Ihe disposal of the Defence Department any hall, room, or shod under your authority for the purpose of commencing the necessary drills. "The .Municipal Act of lilOS gives authority for municipal authorities to assist in the encouragement of shooting and provision of ritic ranges. I would draw your attention to the fact that provision of cover for young nun undergoing instruction on wit and cold ni<?lits is just as important, especially in this the earliest stage of training.
