A narrow escapo from what might liavo proved a. very serious affair happened at the Pa merstop railway station last night, when tho last train camo in from Welling, ton. A passenger named Mr. 11. M'Notflia' was alighting from tho train before it had actually slopped, when ho misused his looting and foil between tho carriages. Ho was quickly extricated. Medical examination at the hospital, where ho was sent in the ambulance, showed that no bones luid been broken, but that h<> had been badly strained and bruised. : At tho Police Court to-day a man named Mark Olson, was charged with breaking and entering the office of Murrav, Thomas and Co., at Paliiicrston, on Tuesday last, and stealing therefrom a cash boi containing a cheque book, papers, and Is, 111 -money, and with obtaining, from Njmi--nor Marere by means of a valueless chequo for ,£'t, a watch chain and other goodg valued at .£!), and lis. in money, Ao< cused was remanded till to-morrow. The Mayor (Mr. J. A. Nash) is laid aside with a very severe attack of influenza, and will not bo able to loavo his home for some days at least.
Tho annual meeting of the Awahuri Cooperative Dairy Company was held at Awahuri last night. Tliero were about forty suppliers present, and the chairman mi d, . re ? tors ( llr - J - Chcethaui) presided, the Ijalniice-sheot ami r-cirart were adopted. It was dccidcd (o pay a dividend of Per cent, on all paid-up capital, and a small balance of ,t:)0 was carried to the reserve account. Messrs. H. Sent, X. Campbell (retiring directors) wore re-elect-ed. A motion by Mr. Binns to do away with proxy voting was lost. Votes of thanks were accorded the staff, directors, and the secretary (Mr. A. Clark), and the meeting terminated. At a subsequent meeting of directors, Mr. Cheethani waa re-elected chairman.

The Court will be asked to convert tho agreement into an award to apply to tho burroughs of l'almerston and WauganUi only.
A meeting of builders was held on W cdnesday afternoon at tho offico of the Manawatu . Employers' Association to consider the demands for if new nward by the Cartraitors' and 'Joiners' Union. Mr. A. E. Bennett presided. After going through' tho demands it was decided lo make counter proposals, based on the old award, applying to this district, which ran out some tini-a ago. The representative of the union (Mr. . W. Maddison) waited on the meeting, but 110' agreement could be como. to. an,d tho dispute will como before tho Conciliation Commissioner in tho ordinary course.
