HOSPITAL AFFAIRS.
. / A meeting, of the Hospital Committee o} tho Wellington Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was held at tho Hospital yesterday afternoon. Those present were: Messrs. R. C. Kirk (chairman), B. R. Gardener, F. T. Moore, G. London, J. Godber, W. Tompatt, G. Nash, and the mi*' ■^ v^ns and H. Van Staveren. lho following recommendations of the House and Finance Committee were adopted :—That tho resignations of Sister E. Balmer, Nurse C. Lambert, and Probationer Blackbourne be accepted with regret. Tfyat the recommendations of tho house steward for altering and improving the morgue ba approved. That a lad he employed for attendim; the telephone, etc., at tho hospital. That Nurse Carter be granted three months leave of absence, and that she. be appointed charge nurse at tho Victoria Hospital. That the quota-1 tion of Messrs. Kirkcaldie.aad Stains for supply of linoleum for the Children's Hospital bo accepted. That the quotation of Mr. Walter Andrews (the lowest) be accepted for the. installation of an electric litt at the hospital. That letters of thanks bo sent to the Mission and Tramway Bands for their services. -That the lighting of 1.D.11. grounds, fencing, and draining there be left with tho house steward to carry out after consultation with Mr. Trevor. That the committee be empowered to purchase a piano for the Nurses' Home on the terms arranged by the subcommittee (Messrs. R. C. Kirk, G. Nash, and Rev. H. Van Staveren). That an additional day bo set aside for attendance of the medical superintendent at the out-patients' department upon certain classes of feniale cases. That as the outpatients' building has outgrown present requirements, it be utilised for chest diseases and dental branches of the outpatients' department, and that the committee be empowered to obtain sketch plans and estimates for a suitable building for the ordinary out-patients' department, on the western side of the main hospital, upon land now occupied by three old cottages of small value. Further, that in the meantime urgent improvements to the existing accommodation bo lelt to tho chairman and «Dr. Hardwick Smith _to give effect to. That the Victoria Hospital and Nurses' Home are now lighted by electric light, and the work of installation at the General Hospital is proceeding. The return of receipts and expenditure for tho fortnight ending July 21, 1911, showed receipts amounting to .£255 ]ss. 3d., made un as follow:—Rents, <£100 15s. 10(1.; in-patfents' fees, <£112 lis. 5d.; outpatients' fees, <£U 75.; sundries. .£1 Is. The expenditure amounted to .£209 10s. During the corresponding period in 1910 the receipts had amounted to ,£350 2s. 3d., and the expenditure to <£117 Bs. 3d. Tho receipts for tho fortnight, ending August 7 had amounted to <£208. There were 262 patients in the hospital on the above date, as compared with 207 in the same period in 1910; 137 were males and 125 females. The Otaki sub-committee reported that six patents had bean admitted to the Otaki Hospital during July and seven discharged. At the end of tho month thero were seven patients in the hospital. Fivo patients had been. admitted to the sanatorium and five discharged. Altogether there were 30 persons—ls males and 15 females—undergoing treatment at the end of July.
