HOCKEY.
WEDNESDAY ASSOCIATION. The games? under the auspices of tho Wednesday Association advanced another stage yesterday afternoon. Tho PakchaKarori match was a hard-fought game from start to finish, and Fakcha (playing with ten men) deserved their win. Petono A had rather an easy victory over Hereawa. The forwards scorned to bo out after the open stylo, .and they exhibited much better combination than has been the case in tho last two matches. Ilui Mai put up the surprise of the day by defeating tho Post and Telegraph representatives! PAKEIIA, 2; KAHOIU, 0. From tho start of tho first spell Fakcha attacked, but tho fine defence of Karon's full-backs drove play back into Pakeha's quarters. For a time after play was in the centre of tho field, and then somu pretty passing between Gracie, Thompson, Jackson, and Simpson enabled Gracie lu notch the first goal for Pnkoha. A few minutes after plav had restarted Dye/ (Karori) had bad luck, his shot at goal only missing the net by inches. Shortly afterwards Draw CPaMa's goalkeej?er;
made a. good "save," kicking the. ball away from under tho striker's stick, .lust before half-timo Karori missed a good chance to score through tho striker giving "sticks."
In tho second spell play for some time was very even, and if anything in favour of Karori, but the fine defence of Paget and .Perry saved IVikohn. time after time. Pakoha eventually carried the play intfl Karon's circle, and Grade, by a tino back-handed stroke, scored the second goal. Karori again experienced hard luck in not scoring. F. Spioro broke away from the half-wav line, and boating tho lot stumbled when lie was essaying his shot nt goal, tho ball just grazing the post. When the whittle sounded for time play was in mid-field.
For Hie winners, Gracie, Thompson, Paget, and Dwyer were the pick of a good lot. For Karori, Gayford, F. Spiers, Low,.and Cooper played well. Mr. G. Carver wast referee.
PETONE A, 7; HEREAWA, 0. Th» match Petone A v. Hereawa was played on tho Basin Reserve, and resulted in a win for Potone by 7 goals to nil. In the first spell goals were sco?ed by •Tudd, Howe, and W. M'Ewnn. In the second spell Hie combination of the Petone forwards carried all before them, and .Tudd and Howe each scored 2 goals. Mr. JJollis wastroferce.
HUI MAI, 4; P. AND T., 2. The game between Hui Mai and Post and Telegraph was plaved on the Dttppa Street Pork, and resulted in a win for Hui Mai by 1 goals to 2. In the first spoil Hui Mai had all the best of the. plav, scoring three goals to nil. These were put on by Bay, Hoy, and Dalglcisli. In tho sece.nd spell play was more even, and if anything in favour of 1. «H ; . who scored two goals to Hui Mai s one. Hadfield and Craic scored for Post, ana Telegraph, while Hoy again scored for Hui Mai. Mr. Empson was referee.
SEVEN-A-SIDE'TOURNEY. Owing to tho large number of teams entering for the seven-a-sido tournament the committee have decided to divide the events into three sections of six teams each Each team in each section wilt meet every other team in that section, and the winner and nmuer-up in each section will form a fourth section, which play off for the tournament championship The committee have awarded a certain number of points to certain junior teams by way of a sealed handicap. THIRD CLASS. The following third-class fixtures ha.ve been arranged:— • St Mark's v. Government Insurance (Mr.'C. H. Cockrell), at Druppa Street. •Wellington v. Victoria, College (Mr. Howell), at Karori No. i. Wesley v. Gregg's (Mr. J. C. Cusack), a.t Basin Reserve. J Hutt, a bye. It has been found necessary to rearrange Jho grounds for these fixtures owing lo the seven-a-side tournament. An important meeting of the hockey referees will be hold at Mr. A. A. Bennett's office, Lambton Quay, to-morrow. ' LADIES' ASSOCIATION. The following are tho ladies' hockey matches for Saturday next:—Senior representative team v. Junior representative team, at. Day's Bay No. 1. Seniors will wear white, and tho juniors coloured blouses. Emergencies must lx> on the ground ready to play. LADIES' BOGEY COMPETITION". The Hokowhitu (Palmcrston) Golf Links wore in splendid order On Tuesday afternoon and beautiful weather prevailed, when the Manawatu Ladies' Golf Club held their monthly bogey competitions. In tho senior A division the leading scores were:—Miss Slack, 15 square; Mrs. L. Seifert, 18, 3 down; Mrs. L. A. Abraahcn, 12, 6 down; Miss Wray, 2, 7 down.
