SUPREME COURT SESSIONS.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Palmerston North, August 15. Before the Chief Justice to-day, Edward George Hansen was sentenced to one yoar'sj imprisonment, and four years' reformatory treatment, for stealing a horse, bridle, and saddle at Hunlervillo, the sentence to be concurrent with that for horse-stealing at Motorinui, imposed yesterday. In the Danuevirke case, in which Francis Haselden sued Andrew Johnson for tho return of J3IOO deposit on an exchange, which was not completed, Norman Gurr stated that ho had expected to receive two and a half per cent, commission from both parties in accordance with the Chamber of Commerce rule. His Honour stated that he had never heard of 21 per cent, for each party in the South Island. Counsel remarked that it had been legally recovered in these Courts. Judgment was reserved.
Dunedin, August 151 The criminal sittings of tho Supreme Court were concluded to-day. Richard Moore, jun., was charged with the theft of seven steers, valued', at ,£7, and. was acquitted, after tho jury had deliberated at leugtli. Donald Owens, charged with false pretences (the sum involved being £2 16s. id.), was found guilty, anxl eontenced to reformative treatment for a period not exceeding three years. Oscar Anderson, alias Chas. Olsen, was convicted on a charge of theft of £10 from a dwelling, and was sentenced to reformative treatment for a period not exceeding three years.
