COMING ELECTIONS.
ELECTORS AND CANDIDATES. (By Telegraph.—Special Correspondent.! Auckland, August 15. Now that tho electoral boundaries have been adjusted, and only about twelve weeks will elapse before tho elections takeplace, candidates may bo expected to an■uoiwco themselves without further delay. As regards the Auckland electorates, the "Star" eays:Atamikiiu lias been n good deal altered. It, now takes in Ellersiie, and becomes more of a suburban seat, embracing as it does Onehunga, Tamaki, and parts of Ono Ireo Hill, Epsom, Mt. Hoskill, Otahuhu, iiiid Mt. Eden. A Liberal candidate, in i ,'• -* 1 -. ' Stewart, an inspector under the Ldiuvition Board, definitely announces his intention of contesting thv sent against Mr. F. W. Lang, tho sitting member. Mr. Stewart contested the seat on a previous occasion against the late Mr. ICirkbnde. Mr. J. B. Morton intends contesting the Manukau constituency as a Literal. Mr. Ghas. Bagley is also a probable candidate, and states that ho will be in a position to make a deiinite announcement as to his intentions in the course of a day or two. Iu Auckland East no candidate has yet ueeu announced against Mr. A. Myers, though it is definitely stated by the local Reform League that a. candidate has been found to contest the seat in the Opposition interest. For Auckland West Mr. C. H. Poole is promised a contest with Mr. \V. Wilson, of Ponsonby. A deputation is to wait on i)r. M Dowcll in tho course of a day or two, and ask him to accept nomination for this seat. Mr. T. L. Thompson is also a possible candidate. Parnell is robbed of Ellersiie, and becomes a. more compact constituency. Af present Air. Lawry is faced with two ccitain opponents in Messrs. E. G. B. Mo«s Oppositionist, and Mr. J. Mack, who sails under Labour colours.' In Grey Lynn the- Hon. G. Fowlds may possibly have as his opponent' Mr. G. Murray (Mayor of Grey. Lynn), who is at present considering his reply, to a requisition. If Mr. Murray stands it will be as a straight-out Oppositionist. . AVaitemata transfers to Marsden tho Mahurangi, Puhoi, and Warkworth ridings, and so loses miica of itt strength as an Opposition stronghold. Mr. Phillips, the present member, will not seek reelection, and tho candidates already in the field are: Messrs. A. Harris (Opposition) and E., Alison, jun. (Independent Liberal). The names of both Mr. W J Napier and Mr. W. J. Speight have been mentioned as likely to provide a Liberal candidate. Mr. Napier to-day received a representative deputation, and promised to give, the matter his consideration. Mr. Speight, seen by a "Star" reporter, said that he had definitely mado np his mind to become a candidate at the next election, but he. was at present not prepared to say. for what constituency. Parnell and Eden, as well as Waitemata, are spoken of as likely to deputationise Mr. Speight to accept nomination. In City Central Mr. A. E. Glover will nave to do battlo against a Socialist candidate in Mr. .11 J. Savage. Mr. Napier, should he decline- to contest Waitemata, is a likely candidate for the City.
HAWKE'S BAT. (By Tclegraph.-Special Correspondent.) m , '~ ~ . Hastings, August 15. Iho alteratiomof tho electoral boundaries has had the effect of causing Mr. A. E. Jull to withdraw, from his proposed candidature for the Haw lie's Bay seat, and.to contest the Waipiiwa scat. It is considered that Mr. Hugh CampMil has been prejudicially affected, as the district in which ho has spent all his life and'in which he is best knp'wn, has been chopped out of Hawke's Bay and added to Waipawa. . OAMAKU. ffly Telesraph-lVcsa Association.! ~ .... , Oamaru, August 15. .At a political meeting to-night a requisition signed by 681 electors, with country lists yet to come in which will bring the total up to over SOO, was presented to Air. E. P.-Ice, asking him to stand in tie Opposition interest. Jlr. Lee consented, and then stated his political .views. The meeting was a very entku■siastic one. i GREY LYNN. ' , _ T m , Auckland, August 15. Mr. I. L. Thompson, a member of tho Grey Lynu Borough Council, has announced himself as a candidate for the Orrey Lynn seat as an Independent, against tho Hon. Geo. Fowlds. Tho Mayor of Grey Lynn (Mr. W. H. Murray} has also been asked to contest tho seat, but he has not yet given a reply.
OTHER SEATS. Mr. Janes Rathorford is mentioned as a probable candidate for the Raglan seat it ho decides to contest tho seat it will be as a straighl>out Oppositionist. 'Mr. Kutherford is\i. well-kajwn farmer in :he Bombay portion of the electorate. He has been president of Ihe Auckland A. and P. Association, president of the Farmers' Union, and a member of tho Education Board. He is at present a member of the Auckland Chari'-able Aid Board. In the old Franklin electorate he has been one of Mr. Massey's staunchest supporters, and is popular and greatly 'respected throughout tho district.
