At the City Council meeting the Mayor reported that his ■ mission to England in connection with the claims of Adelaide- to a Lord Mayoralty had been futile. Tho Colonial Secretary (Mr. Lewis Harcourt) informed him that the Imperial Government had decided not to grant additional Lord Mayors to any city of the Empire. ,
The Mayors of Sydney and Melbourne were- givjn the title of Lord Mayors by King Edivird in 1902.
