SYDNEY A"ND WELLINGTON. Sydney, iu a cable message published on Saturday, claimed to have tlie lowest death-rate of any city ill the world. The proj>ovtion oi' deaths per one thousand was given as 10.09. In this matter, however, Sydney must yield first placo to Wellington, whoso record last year places her very materially in frqnt of the New South capital. Wellington's dcath-rato for 1910, taking (he city area alone was 9.31 per thousand, or, including suburbs, 8.95 per thousand, ft will thus bo seen that the figures which Sydney jubilantly proclaims the lowest death-rate of any city in the world aro . very considerably bettered by M ellington. The other Kew Zealand cities, taking tho city areas proper, have a slightly higher dcath-vato than Sydney. The figures aro as follow.— ,<V\iqkla!i,d, 1 ,n.53 per thousand. ' iflhristeliurcl), 10.54 per thousand. Ditnedin, 10.99 per thousand. Including the suburban areas also the averages aro as follow:— 'Auckland.-. 9.73 per thousand. Christchurch, 10.il per thousand. Dunedin. 10.21 per thousand. Auckland, also, in the last table, has a lower average than Sydney. The death-rate for the whole of New Zealand is 9.71 per thousand. /
