WITNESS ESCAPES COMMITTAL. By Tolceraph—Press Association-Copyrlehl New York, August 10. Mr. George Perkins, a' director of tho United States Steel Corporation, who refused to answer questions ielating to contributions by tho Trust to political campaign funds, will not be committed for contempt. The Congressional Committco of Inquiry decided not to enforce.its demand for information on this point, except ono question, which Mr. Perkins agreed to answer. Hi stated that ho know .£2OOO had been contributed to tho campaign of 1901.
