The French steamer Emir, which carnq, into collision with tie British steamer Silverton off Tarifa, fifteen miles west of Gibraltar, sank immediately. There were no English or American passengers on board. Most of thoso drowned wero Moroccan labourers. The Silverton lowered three boats, but they wero only able to savo twelve of the Emir's crew and fifteen passengers who *wero on deck. Ninety-throe of the passengers and crow were drowned.
