THAT RAFT AT CAPE MARIA.
THE AFFAIR CLEARED UP. *— Apprehension caused by the. raft which washed ashore at Scott's Point—one o£ tho desolate beaches near Capo Maria Van Diemeii—is now sot at rest. Sir. G. Allport, Secretary to tho Marino Department, received,a telegram yesterday from tho Collector of Customs at Auckland which states as follows:— R<! raft. Unliable man sent to report. Barrels lashed to a board in a triangle* with a small rope. Latter in excellent condition. One barrel is marked "Robert Forbes, Lyttelton." Two are marked "British Oil Cademills, Ltd., Glasgow and London." Flags, ono white and one blue. Natives saw tho raft como ashore, and no ono was on it. . It is-considered hero that it was ri. mark used bv surveying ship (Terra Nova). Tho apples and turnips aro too fresh to belong to a wreck. Mr. Allport said tint this is concmfive that no mishap has occurred. Tho "Robert Forbes" mentioned in tho telegram is a merchant in Lyttelton, and no doubt the barrels, of oil were bought bofore tho Terra Nova (which is engaged in survey work in tho vicinity of tho Three Kings) left Lyttelton. These rafts ai\J used in comt-ocHon with tho work. THE BARQUE RONA. (By Tclegraph.-Prcss Association.) Christcliurch, August 11. Messrs. A. H. Turnbull and Co., owners of tho barque Hona (previously mentioned in connection with tho raft) received a telegram this morning from tho Harbourmaster at Hokianga stating that tho barque was in sight from tho Heads there, but that thb wind was easterly, and this/would prevent her from making port quickly. ___________
