Mr. Meyer, Secretary for. the United States Nary, is visiting England with a view to reducing the expenses of the American navy yards to th& English lovel. Mr. M'Kenna, First Lord of the-. Admiralty, and Admiral Sir A. K. Wilson, the First Sea Lord/, are assisting Mr. Meyer in his. investigations. Ie the course of an interview, Mr. Meyer stated that ho was much interested in tho Dominion navies. He thought the visit x of the United-States fleet to Australasia gave a-great impetus to the desire for an Australian-built and Australianmanned squadron. He did not agree with tho fear that Australia might have a difficulty in manning her warships. America, ho pointed out, did not try to find sailors; she looked for bright, active youths and trained them.
