RAILWAY APPEAL BOARD.
THAT PRECIS. . Tho.methods of tlio Railway Department's head offico in regard lo proceed, tags' before the Railway Appeal Board were touched upon in a question and answer which were before the House of Representatives yesterday, Mr. Field asked:—"(l) Whether attention has been drawn to a report iu tha Wellington newspapers of August 2, 1911. of a silting of the Railway Appeal Board in JDuncdin, wherein it is staled that tho officer representing the Department refused to allow the appellant a copy of tho evidence taken at the Departmental inquiry, but offered him only what purported to 1» n precis of such evidence, which precis on examination proved to. bo useless and misleading; (2) if the action taken by tho Department's rcprescntitivo was taken with tho sanction of tho Department; and (II) it ho will see Hint in the future no similar nttempt is pindo to hamper (ho cases of railway servants appen ring before the Appeal Hoard " Tho Hon. .T. A. Miliar replied-.-"(l) Th« summary in Ihe Wellington newspapers regarding wlial transpired at a silling of the Railwav Appeal Board in Duiiotlin came under my notice. The officer representing the Department did not offer Hie appellant, a precis nf the evidence, neither was (he precis of the evidence, lifeless or misleading. The precis was transmitted from Wellington to the appellant in accordance with the lirncticf- that has been followed from the incenl.ion of the Railway Appeal Boards. (2) Tho action of I he. Department's representative has tho sanction of the Deparlmonl.. (3) Inm not aware that anv attempt was made lo hamper the railway servant's appeal before (ho Aivpcnl Hoard. On Hie coiilrorr, the Dejnni.menrs representative appears to hav< : rei'-dered every assistance."
