TRAMWAY REGULATIONS.
' AN AXGKY MEMBER. Mr. Davcy asked tho Minister for Public Works (t.he Hon. R. M'Konzie) in tho House of Representatives yesterday whether he would submit any proposed tramway regulations to a Select Committeo of the House. Tho Minister replied that the draft tramway regulations had been dealt with by a conference of Government officers and tramway experts. Tlmy might not, however, be ready for some time, Mr. Davey frankly' expressed his dissatisfaction with this reply. "If Ministcrs are worth their position in this House," ho said, "they should give a plain reply to a straightforward question." Ho added that it would bo better that Ministers should decline to give any -reply to a question than that such a reply should be made as bad been given to his question. Remarks by one or two members, among them tho Hon. R. M'Konzie, that tho regulations wore not yet ready, did not satisfy Mr. Davcy. Ho rejoined sharply that ho did not care if the regulations were not ready for ten years, His question had not b=en answered.
The Minister for Public Works told a reporter yesterday that he could not give any indication of tho next step that would be taken in tho matter.
