HUTT RAILWAY AND ROAD BILL URGENT PETITION. TOWN-PLANNING BILL. When the House met yesterday afternoon, the Speaker reported that on Saturday he had presented to his Excellency the Governor the address from the House of Representatives. Tho Governor's reply, which it was decided should, bo entered in tho Journal of the House, was as follows:—"I thank you for your address, and for the assurance that the matters which have been submitted to you will receive your earliest aUd attentive consideration."
A private Bill, the Guardian, Trust, and Executor;*' Company Amendment (Mr. Bollard), wm read a second time without discussion.
THE HUTT ROAD. Mr. 0. Graham, on behalf of Mr. T. M. Wilford, Mayor of Wellington, presented a hurriedly-prepared petiti6n to the House, in which it was asked that tho second reading of the Hutt Railway and lJoad Improvement Amendment Bill should be postponed for at least three weeks, in order that careful consideration might be given to its provisions by the local bodies concerned. In view of the urgency of the matter, permission was sought and obtained .to have the petition read without notice, and it was read accordingly by the Clerk of the House. The petitioner pointed out that although the Bill had only been circulated that day, it had been set down for second reading tha.t.djy. As careful con* fidoration o£ tho Bill was of vital importance to the local bodies concerned, and they had as yet riot had any opportunity of considering it at 'all, tho .petitioner urged that the delay asked for should ba granted. Subsequently, when the Bill was called on the Hon. J. A. Millar moved Irt oo*t> pone the second for a fortnight, and this was agreed to,
NEW BILLS. The Hon. E. M'Konzie gave notice, of his intention to move for leave to introduce the following Bills:— Mining Act Amendment, Coal-mines Act Amendment, Stoneqnarries Amendment Bill, awl Tramway Act Amendment, Most of the afternoon sitting was occupied with the Mokau laud dealings, as reported in another part of this issue.
THE LATE MR. F. H. FRASER. When the House met in the evening the Acting-Premier moved that the House record its appreciation of the services rendered to this country b.V Mr. Francis Humphries Fraser. a former Legislative Councillor, and also a former member of the Lower House, and extend to his relatives assurance of sympathy with them in their bereavement. The motion was seconded by Air. Massey. supported by Messrs. Luke, Wright, and Russell, aud carried.
