CBj Tcloeraph.—Press Association J MAYOR RESIGNS. Hawera, August 8. The Mayor, Mr. E. U. Barton, has resigned his office. Trouble took place in committee, but it is understood that the difference of opinion arose over a matter of procedure. BARNARDO HOMES. Feilding, August 8. Four weeks ago tho Feilding "Star" opened a subscription list in aid of Dr. Baniardo's Homes. Tho list was closed last night, ~113 having been subscribed. A feature of the donations was the very liberal help given by the children of tho various schools' throughout the district. HIGH BABO3IE.TEE. ■ Hokitika, August 8. The barometer yesterday reached 30,644 inches, the highest reading recorded for twenty-one years. This morning it was 30.580 inches. The weather for the past month has been perfect. During July 2.42 inches of Tain foil, on six. days only. Very light frosts have been experienced.
