BUTTER FROM AUSTRALIA.
NEARLY ,£3OOO IX A MONTH, ' In consequence of the high price ruling in the local batter market a considerable quantity of the Australian article has found its way into Wellington of late. During January, I'ebruarj-, and March none was .imported, but ill the quarter enirlftl with Juno 2-U cwt. came iu. During July and last week, however, the importations amounted in all to 170 cwt., valued at JE2SG2. Sending butter to NewZealand savours somewhat of the old joke of sending coals to Newcastle, but the present high prices make the deal profitable in' spite, of the import', duty.
