An exhibition of antique and modern plate was opened at the Mansion House, London, on .Tune 7, by Mrs. Vhilelaw Rc-id, in aid of the Hospital for Women, Soho Square. This plate, which is being lent by the churches and guilds of the City of Tiondon, will supplement the famous service of the city corporation. It in almost impossible to .estimate the value of this collection', but an idea of its worth may be gained from tlie fact that it has been insured for -£100,000, excluding tlio corporation plate.
A square chest of ccdar from British Columbia, at 'one end ef Canada, bound with iron from Nova. Scotia at. the other, and a polished block of gold-bearing quartz from Jiorthevn Ontario has bren presented to the King by the Empire Club of Canada. The chest contains a set. of the speeches delivered at. the club luncheons in tho last seven vr-irs, bound An wd morocco.
