OBITUARY.

MR. F. E. FEASER, M.L.C. Mr. F. H. Fraser, M.L.C., died at his residence, 90 Abel Smith Street yesterday, ct the ago of 78, after 1 a long illness. Tho interment will take place to-morrow, when tho funeral will Ikivo his residence at 10, a.m. for the Sydney Street cemetery. Mr. Francis Humphries 'Fraser was born in London in 1833, just after the passing of the Reform Bill. He was educated at Edinburgh, at Watson's Hospital School. Ho returned to London in 1547, and took an uctivo interest in Sunday School work; He sailed for New Zealand in 186-1. in the "Wild Dnck," and shortly after his arrival in Wellington he identified himself with tho various temperance societies then existing in the city, and latterly attained high distinction in the ranks of the temperance orders and societies; ho was district secretary to the Independent Order of Rechabites, president of the Wellington Cospel Temperanco Society and City Mission, vice-president of the New Zealand Alliance, and Past Chief Templar of tho ■1.0. G.T. Mr. Fraser's civic activities were distributed over a wido field, and included membership of the Wellington Hospital Trustees, District Charitable Aid Board, Education Board, Harbour Board, and so oq. In 1881; he contested the .Te Aro seat for election to Parliament, and was defeated by Mr. C. J. Johnston by 10 votes; in ISB7 he tried again at a by-election, and defeated the late Mr. W. T. L. Trayers by a big. majority. Ho remained.in Parliament till its dissolution, in the samo year as his election, when he retired, and (lid not thereafter seek election. In 18S9 ho was called to the Legislative Council, but subsequently retired.
