o • PERSONAL NOTES FROM LONDON. London, .Tune 20. Mr. W. .T. AVest intends to visit Scotland and Ireland before leaving for New Zealand in August. Among thoso approved in absence for the M.I), degree of Cambridge University, n few days ago, was Mr. William Irving, M.S., of New Zealand. Mr. E. Gimmett, of Xelk>n, will probably remain in England for three or four years, to gain experience in mechanical engineering. Mr. E. Newall. of Dnnedin, proposes to tour England and Scotland, and then take a trip to Paris before returning to New Zealand in November. Mr. F. Day, of the P.W.1)., proposes to remain in England until August, and_ to spend the interval in sightseeing, shooting at Bisley, and motor-bicycling. Mrs. F. Trask, of Nelson, and her daughter, Mrs. A. M. Beer, of Gisborno, intend visiting Scotland,. Wales, Ireland, and the Continent before returning to Now Zealand.
Mr. R. 11. Wilsou, of the Now Zealand Coronation contingent, intends to remain in England for tho next four months, and will probably take a trip to America before returning to New Zealand: Mr. and Mrs. Witson Steele, of Auckland. will be in Europe until the end of October. They intend to tour tho United Kingdom, Ireland, and the Continent before returning to the Dominion. Mr. Thomas Doberty, of Canterbury, a member of the Now Zealand Coronation Contingent, proposes to visit friends in Yorkshire, Lancashire, and Ireland before returning-to New Zealand, via Australia. Mr. Thos. R. Strang, of Oamaru and Invorcargill, has visited Scotland and tho English Lakes, and hopes to go to Paris and Brussels before returning to New Zealand via America in October.
Mr. and Mrs. William Chick,, of Hnwke's Bay. arrived by tho Moron, and will remain in London till the end of July, iifler which they spend some time in Franco and the "West of England beforo 'returning to New Zealand early next year.
Mr. G. Seaton, of Hawera, has arrived in London via Paris .md Genoa. Visits to relative.", and friends in various parts of England will occupy him till September, when he leaves on his return journey. Mr. James Clark, .T.P., and Mrs. Clark/ of Auckland, with Mrs. Dalgety, intend to spend twelve months touring England and Scotland. It is fifty years since Mr. Clark, his wife, and sister left their native Scotland for tho colonies. Mr. J. C. Marciol, of Christishurh, is on a holiday trip to England for rest and change, accompanied by his daughter. They return to New Zealand at the end of August, visiting meanwhile tlio South C-oast, Manchester, Madrid, and Paris. Mrs. Collins, of Gisborne. is returning to New Zealand in September. Both Mrs. and Miss Collins have boon on tho sick list since their arrival, though they havo been able to undertake a tour of Iroland, and enjoy a spell of motoring through the English provinces. Miss M. F. Ayson, of Wellington, toured for some time on the Continent beftjre coming to England, and is now spending a month with friends in Worcestershire. Sho hopes to tour Scotland and the South of England before leaving in September for.Australia, en route for New Zealand.
Miss Annie Carter, mistress of the Tangowahine School, North Wairoa, crime to England with his brother, Mr. Carter, of Coronation . contingent. They intend visiting somo of the principal provincial centres, and, if time permits, they will make a short Continental tour beforo returning to New Zealand.
Mrs. Sibbald, of Auckland, and her two daughters, Misses Mary and Amy Sibbald, intend to leavo England in August for Paris, to join Dr. Douglas Sibbald, who is house surgeon at the British Hospital there. . , .
Judge Palmer,, of Wellington', who is hero On sick leave, accompanied by Mrs. Palmer, visited Egypt, Italy, Switzerland, tho Riviera, and Paris en route to • London. They now go on a trip to Norway, and afterwards will visit Germany, Ireland, and Scotland, returning to' New Zealand in September. Judge Palmer's health has greatly improved. ' Mr. G. E. Holden-Webb, eon of Colonel liolden-Webb, late of the New Zealand Council of Defence, arrived in London recently from Singapore. He is a member of the Straits Settlements Coronation contingent, and is a lieutenant in- the Singapore Royal Engineers (Volunteers). Mr. Webb expects to remain in England several months, and then leaves for New Zealand.
Mr. W. H. .Vickers, of Picton, is in England on a visit to relatives, after an absence of thirty-one years, most of which have been spent in the service of the Bank of New Zealand in various parts of the Dominion. Mr. Vickers purposes tourill;; Devon, Cornwall, and the Isle of Wight, and will probably see something of Scotland also beforo returning.
Mr. Ralph Rayner, late of tho Grey Valiev, New Zealand, and at present under tlio Sudan Government, arrived in England 011 leave recently, coming hero via Italy] and, after a short stay, going on to the North and Scotland. Ho returns to tho Sudan in August, via tho Rhino Valley, Munich, and Trieste. His next leave he hopes will be spent in NewZealand. Mr. W. A. TaafTe, of Waimato and Christchurch, has come over to England in order to sit for the British Optical Association's diploma, and is at present at tho British Optical Institute under Dr. Coque, studying. The Rev. R. Gray and Mrs. .Gray, of Canterbury, left London recently for New York. Mr. Gray being due to represent New Zealnnd at the Pan-Baptist Congress at Philadelphia. Later ho will attend the Christian Endeavour Convention at Atlantic City, and during his stay in America will" vist Maine and some of the Southern Prohibition States in the interests of tho. New Zealand Alliance. Early in September, Mr. and Mrs. Gray will join the Marama at Vancouver for their return to the Dominion.
Mr. Alfred Ividd. ex-Ma.vor of Auckland, called on Lord Ranfurly a few days ago, and presented him with a Intf.pr from the inmates nf the Veterans' Home in Auckland, which ,Lnrd Ranfurly was iiv strumental in founding during his .term as Governor.
