NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIP. \ Tho New Zealand amateur billiard championship tournament advanced another stage on Wednesday night at Auckland, when W. E. Hackett beat A. Price by a margin of 11)1 points, at tho Amateur Sports Club's rooms. There was a stitis—factory attendance. Hackett, who scored 500 to liis opponent's SO!), averaged 0.4 per visit to tho table. His largest breaks were '19, 2", 27, 20, 20, 21, and 22, whilo I'rico made .'ls, 21, and 23.. Hackett mado an unfinished break of 17.
It will be recollected that some timo ago tho late Mr. Percy Buller presented his fiuc collection of foreign butterflies, which have been so much admired lately when exhibited, to tho Dominion Museum, and tiio lato Sir Walter Buller, his father, was durin" the whole of his life a contributor to the collection, Tho museum ha.s just received from another member of tho family Mr. Leo Buller, two canoes which were oil'the beautiful lake Papaitonga. One is a war canoc called 'lo Ifunga, about the" size of tho one in the museum, and the other is a small, light craft of very perfect workmanship, presented to him by tho late Major Kemp (To Rangihiwinm), called To Karere-a-Mahuri. There are very few specimens of this small, light craft now existing. Steps will be taken shortly to tiring these canoes from tho lako to the museum.
