MORE ABOUT TITLES.
VIEWS OP TEE EON. J. E. JENIUNSON. Another reference to the recently conferred titles was nude in the Legislative Council yesterday, tho yjpakor being the Hon. J. E. Jonkinson, who stud he fully appreciated, tho dolicftto sarcasm of tho lion. J. ltigg. Personally. Mr. Jonkinson paid, there'was no objection to a title if it was earned, and tho general public and tho recipient thought a tillo was a.necessary adjunct. Pew. he thought, if any, would sav that tho title bestowed on Sir Joshua Williams was not merited, and ho believed tho same remark applied to Sir James Carroll and Sir Arthur Guinness. As for Sir Joseph Ward taking a baronetcy he (Mr. Jonkinson) did not know that that would alter the nature of the man, or that he would not do his work as well as a baronet as a K.C.M.G, Coming to their own Chamber ho could not see that there was anything at all to prompt tho bestowal of a knighthood on Dr. i'iiidluv. It was a great nity for his own sake that he touk the title. Ho (tho speaker), could not too that it was earned so fully. At this point the Acting-Speaker interposed. Mr. Jonkinson said he did not wish to say any more about it now. Jit- would probably pet an opportunity when Sir John Findlay was here. At tho sanio time he did not wish it to bo thought for a moment that he was a less ardent admirer of Sir John Findlny than any other member of the Council.
