I A DEMAND FOR 6,000,000 DOLLARS.A dispatch to the "Tokio Nichi Nichi" from Washington, June 11, savs that the Chinese Government has demanded an indemnity of 6,000,000 dollars of the itexican Government in connection with the murder of 300. Chinese in Torreon It is reported vthat a Chinese cruiser wii tie dispatched to Mexico to male a demonstration. Tho report by the Chinese Investigating Committee says that tho insurants tied half-dead Chinese to hordes and draped them round tho town. Iho following cablegram, dated June 10,-appeared in tho "'fokio Asahi":-Thc Chinese Charge 'd'Affaires in Mexico sent a committee of three taen to tho sceno of atrocities, who made a report of their 10 " 8, .^ cc ( ordin S to that report dO3 Chinese residents were murdered and 59 houses were destroyed, including banks and clubs It IS said that besides the indemnify the following demands will bo Tiiflclc b\ tho Chinese Government*' 1/Apology for insulting tho Chinese • 2. The relief of tho families of tho=o murdered. .1. The punishment of the malefactors 4. ; Constitutional guarantee for the protection of life and property of the Chinese in Mexico. Commenting editorially on the above the "Japan Times" of June 17 says ' "ty is reported that China has' presented a series of dwnands to the provisional Government of Mexico to get satisfaction for the wrongs done to her people during the recent disturbances and . that she is going to send some warships •to the waters of that American Republic. One may doubt tho wi-dom of anythiy-r like a naval demonstration on the part of China at this iuncture; but we have no doubt that all fair-minded persons the world over would sunport her if her demands are brought homo to Mexico with no ostentatious show of ' force." Hon. Charles A. Parsons has been awarded the Albert Medal of the Society of Arts m recognition of his work in connection, with steam turbines.
