MR. FLETCHER AND THE IRISH ENVOYS.
Sir,—Hearing rumours of a speech delivered by Mr. l<ofcert. Fletcher, at tlio banquet given by tho Hibernians of this city to tlie Irish envoys, and.seeing no report of same in either of the daily papers, it causes mo to pause and wonder why. Surely tho words, of such a prominent citizen as Mr. Kobort Fletcher, chairman of the Wellington Harbour Board, a City Councillor, and a budding M.P. to boot, are worthy of recognition. Rumour bath it that ho is not only an Irish Homo Kuler, but a Scottish ono as well. Does Mr. Fletcher believe that British rulo in Ireland has been unjust or cruel. Ho must know that many of the Irish Homo Rulers liavo proved themselves disloyal in sentiment as well as in action. Docs lie forget "Colonel" Lynch, and his "loyal" Irish during the Boer War. He, Mr. Fletcher, would, perhaps, liko to accompany Sir James Carroll to the opening of tho Irish Parliament at Collego Green, Dublin. Well, methinks he -wont go as a New Zealand M.P.—I am, etc., ANOTHER BRITISHER.
Wellington, July 29, 1911. [Mr. Fletcher was present, but we believe did not speak at the banquet to the Irish Homo Rulo envoys.]
