Present indications are for moderate southeasterly winds northward of Kawhia ■ and Napier, ajid easterly and northerly breezes elsewhere. Fair weather will probably prevail, though cloudy and unsettled nt times, especially on tho East Const of the North Island, and on the West Coast, and southern districts of tho South Island. Tho barometer has a falling tendency in tho southernmost districts, but little movement now indicated generally. Anticyclonic prcssnro prevails everywhere, and moderate southerly winds havo predominated. August 4.—The wcathor to-day was lino but cloudy, with threatening indications for rain. Greytown, August 4.—lt rained last night, but has been line, though dold. during tho day. Thewind is from tho south-west, and light. Masterton, August 4—Tho Rev. A. Hodge reported at six o'clock tonight for the previous twenty-four hours as follows:—Shade temperature: maximuri, 51.4deg., minimum. 44deg., mean, 46.7d0g.; earth radiation, 42deg.; earth temnorature (lft. below surface), 4Sdeg.; wind, fresh. E.; rain, 3 points; weather, drizzling rain during the night, and overcast all da.v, but not very cold.
