IN AID OP THE BABIES.
Tho proceeds of tho poster ball which is to bo held in the Town Mall to-night, under the patronage of Lord and Lady Islington, will go to the Society for the Promotion of tho Health of Women and Children. Tho public of Wellington only provide one Plunkct nurso, whilo Auckland, Christchurch, and Dunodin have two each. It costs JtiW a year for each nurso (=£l2o for salary, and JEBO for tele-, phone and incidental expenses). The public has to contribute JJISJ of this in order to secure tho Government grant of ,£SO. Tho present nurse in Wellington received full medical and surgical training at the Wellington Hospital, and has just completed threo months' training in the Karitane Home for babies at Dunedin. "Tho society has done-splendid work in Wellington. The Pluuket nurso has attended an averago of 300 babies each year, and many of the doctors find her services invaluable. She goes into tho home and teaches the mother the of infants in all its aspects: feeding, hygiene, exercise, fresh air, etc. The Governor and Lady Islington are taking great interest in the movement.; People who do not care to take part in tho poster ball may go to look on. ■
