FIRE.

The occupants of a five-Toomed louse, situate just oufsido' the southern end of the Kilbirnie tunnel, were awakened at an early hour this morning by the smell of smoke. On getting out of bed, tho occupants, Mr. D. Taylor and family, found their houso in flames. They had no time to save anything, except themselves. The house and contents were totally destroyed. The contents were insured in the Guardian office for .£3OO. Tho liouse is owned by Mr. Houghton, of Kelburne.

A fire was caused in a rather unusual manner at the residence of Mrs. M. Casey, 18 Turnbull Street, yesterday afternoon. The brigade received the call at 2.47 p.m., and on arriving at the sceno discovered that the fire had been extinguished after slight damage had been done to the curtains of a room, which had been ignited by heat caused by fie sun's rays shining on a lens on an adjacent dressing table.
