Ifosrs. Dalgety and Co., Ltd. (Palmcrston North branch) report having held a very successful sals on account of . Mr. Chas. Hopping, at hi 3 farm, liongotca, on Wcdnesd.iy, when they offered his whole herd of grade llolstein cows, pedigree heilers, and grade and Ifolstein bulls. There was :•- Jsrjc- and representative attendance, buyers being present from Hawcra, Rohoutu, InaKa, Wanganni, F.ltham, Kelson, Ifawke's Hay, and Wairar.ipa. The dairy cows were in specially good condition, and were eagerly competed for. The following are prices realised:—Dairy herd: Early calvcrs. £15, £17, £22, to £25 10s.; end ol August calvcrs, £14 to £18; September calvers, £11 to £14: backward calvers £8 to £10; cows in milk, £9. £11 10s., £14 10a., to £16; grade yearling heifers, 35, 5, to 5J guineas; (trade yearling bull?, 5 to 6 guineas; grade two-year bulls, 9, 10. 11 to 12 guineas; highgrade two-year bulls. 14, 17. 20, to 21 guineas; pedigree yearling heifers, 39, 13, to 50 guineas; pedigree two-year heifers, 45, 50, 55, to 67 guineas; pedigree hulls, 22, '!0, to 30 guineas. The quality, however, was not too good, but we sold the bulk of our entry at rates as below. Wo had also a fair entry of cattle which sold at late rates. Preece, when the cows, which were a good lot and forward, realised satisfactory prices. The horses were a. good lot, and met with keen competition. On the same day I sold -,Ir. W. Newman'? herd at my Stratford yards, but the cows were in low condition, and mostly late calvers. Bidding was consequently dull, and prices on tho low side.
