CROWN SETTLERS' PLEA.

A REDUCTION IN VALUES,

A deputation-of settlers from the South Waimarino district-liuatahi, MangatiU, and Rairaiki blocks—interviewed tho Land Board yesterday on behalf of Iho Crown settlers of thcfo localities, ami asked for a reduction in tho values of their holdings. Tho matter was considered by the board, for fovernl hours, in committee. On resuming, the following resolution was handed to tho press:— "The board, having considered tho matter in committee, resolves that there is no power, without introducing; legislation, to comply with tho request of tho petitioners; also, that the price is not excessive in view of Hie lilxiral amount bring spent in roading, and, further, that whilst the raids arc being constructed, for a period of four years, tho sol tiers ar; entirely free from rates and rents. . The board, therefore, iloss not sec its way to recommend any reduction of the' capital value of tho lnnds, which averages Ms. Od. per nrre, and not 50s. Gd. as stated.
