Tho wool sales closed firm, at the top prices of tho Ecrios, The following are the prices realised at the wool sales for the fleece portion of the clips named:—Clayton, top price 12d., average lid.; Owaoko, 19d. and 14? d.; Waipohi, 13jd. and 12d.; Cairn, 13d. and lid. At the wool sales £6,000 bales were" eold for the Homa market; 46, KG bales for the Continent; 25C0. bales for America; and 11,000 bales were held over. As compared with tho May series, merinos closed fully at par, excopt short carbonising sorts, which were elightly easier. Pino greasy crossbreds advanced five per cent., and lower grado sorts were very firm at par: scoureds declined by about ten per cent. Crossbred lambs wero slightly in sellers' favour, and merinos about five per centum dearer. 'Hie sales included the following Ne>v Zealand brands:—Denall, lid.; Langridge, top price. 91d.; average price, 9Jd.; Grasmere, 22jd- and 21Jd. The Bank of New Zealand has received the following cable advice from its London office, dated July 25:—"The sales havo' closed very firm, and tho prospects are

good. The market discs with good demand for coarse crossbreds. Total quantity held over i.; <I,CCO bales, of which 3D,tCO are New Zealand." Messrs. Dalgety and Co., Ltd., have received the following wool market cablegram from their London house, dated .luly 26:— The wool sales closed firm. As compared with last, sales' closing rates, prices for greasy super merino wools are par to 5 pel' cent, higher, while irrcasy average merino wools are unchanged. Heavy, earthy, and wasty greasy merino wools aro 5 per rpiit. loweri good to line scoured merino wools are unchanged, and medium and inferior scoured merino wools are par to 5 per cent, lower. Prices for greasy crossbred wools are unchanged, while scoured crossbred wools are from 5 per cent, to 10 per cent, lower, and sliped crossbred wools are from 5 per cent, lo 71 per cent, lower. The total net quantity available amounted lo 175,W0. bales, of which 2000 bales were sold to America. E6.CCO hales were sold for Home consumption, 45.0C0 hales were sold to tile Continent. 50.CC0 hales were not offered, and 41.C00 bales were carried forward, The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, have received the following cablegram from their London house, under dale August 26:—London wool sales: The sales closed with good competition; 134,0C0 bales were sold; 46,000 hales were taken for tlie Continent, and "OCO holes for America; 41,C00 hales were held over. Messrs. Murray, Roberts, and Co.. Ltd., have received the following message from their London friends, Messrs. Sanderson, Murray, and Co., dated July 26, with reference to the elos'e of the sales:—Tho sales have closed weak and irregular, 42,000 bales being held over. The market shows no change for. best descriptions of merino, and for greasy crossbred. Scoured crossbreds show a decline of 10 per cent., with a very weak and irregular market. The London wool sales have closed, and although firmness was a feature of the close, the producers of crossbred wool wi'l not feel quite satisfied with tho course of the sale. There was no change in the value of greasy orossbreds. hut scoured and sliped were substantiallv lower. The point that gives emphasis to the dissatisfaction of the owners of wool is the heavy withdrawals. Altogether 175,000 bales were available, and the distribution of this quantity was as under:— Bales. Sold to Yorkshire 86,000 Sold to Continent <6,000 Sold to America 2.CCO Held over 41.CC0 175X00 In addition to the quantity held over. 30.000 hales were not offered, and consequently there will be about 71,000 bales of the past clip to he submitted at the sales which begin ou September 26, when a fair quantity of Australia's new clip will be on the market. At the .luly sales last year 24,000 bale-s were not offered, and 32,000 hales were held over, or a total of 56,000 hales.
