LETTERS TO THE EDITOR.

DELAYS IN LATE TRAIN TO JOHNSUNVILLE, Sir,—l wish In protest, against the constant' delays iu the laie train to Johnsonville. This, sir, is the position: On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays the last train leaves at. 11.15 p.m., and oil Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at !1.45 p.m. Last night (July 25), however, the {1.45 p.m. train was delayed Until 10.15 pjn., and as usual intending passengers were not aware of any alteration until they arrived at the station. You can imagine our surprise and disgust. when we were informed that the train was delayed on account of a "social" evening in connection with the Lauds Department. and that. five, or six Khandallah "toffs" had been instrumental in getting the train delayed on that account. Xow, sir, the hundred or so regular travellers by these lato trains would not mind giving way to these half dozen persons who can apparently get. the trains delayed when they like for mothers' meetings, operas, and social evenings, providing the Railway Department would give us, say, 21 hours' notice of their intention to delay the trains, but it is a bit rough to keep about one hundred passengers hanging about on wet and cold nights to suit the convenience of five or six Khandallah "angels."—l am, etc., NGAIO.
