A serious riot has occurrcd at Childers, tho principal town in the Isis sugar-pro-ducing district,. A body of 150 sugar strikers attacked forty free labourers in a factory, smashing tho windows and damaging tho machinery. Several persons were also injured. A magistrate was sent for to read the , Riot Act. . Tho disturbance was eventually quelled. 1 Tho extended idleness ■in the district ' has caused business to oomo to a stand- i still. ' ' ■!
