ADMNGTOX JIAKKKT. (By TclcEraph--rre=6 Association.) Cliristchurch, July U. At Addington live stock market there were very small entries of stock owing to the wet weather and the interruption of railway traffic op. the northern line. Jn consequence of the short supplies of fat stock there was a sharp rise in prices. Store ewes and hoggets were in Rood demand. Vat lambs and sheep advanced several shillings per head, and there was little change in fat cattle, except that cows sold rather better. Pigs met with an irregular sale.
There, was a.fair yarding of store sheer, consisting principally of hoggets with a few. pens of cwk and wethers. The sheep were mostly oi medium to inferior class, but met- with a very good demand, especially for hoggets and young ewes, a Southland buyer again operating. Wethers were unchanged. Several lots of aged ew.os failed to .-find buyers at the prices asked. An extra good line of six-tooth ewes made 17s. Id.; medium six and eighttooth owes, 12s. lid.; 'eounu-month " halfbreds, lis. 2d:: aged and toothless, 4s. to 6s. Bd.; best hoggets, lis. 6d. to 12s. Id.; average lines. IDs. 3d. to 10s. 6d.; fair wether hoggets, lCs. 3d. to ICs. 10d.; good ewe hoggets, 13s. 3d.; medium, 10s. lOd. to lis. 6c1.; small and inferior, 9s. Id.; fair conditioned wethers, 12s. lid. to 13s. 3d.; small, low-conditioned halfbteds, IDs. 3d.
The yarding of fat lambs was almost entirely made up of one line, only a few mere smalt lots being penned. There was a good demand and a considerable rise in prices, which ranged from 13s. 7il. to 19s. Id.
The entry of fat sheep was also a very small one, and consequently prices advanced several shillings per . head. The principal supplies of sheep and lambs have been coining of late from the northern district. This source was cut oft' by the interruption of railway traffic, and the competition .of butchers to fill their, requirements was naturally keen and accounted for such a marked rise in prices;. .The •range .of prices was:—Prime wethers, 2is. to. 1873.; extra, to 385.; others, lbs. 3d. to 205.;- prime eKim, 18s. to 235.; extra, to 335.; medium, 15s. to 175.; wethers, 12s. 6d. to 14s. 9(1.
T The yarding of fat cattle totalled 177 or little more thfi.n half an average entry. The greater part of the yarding was of medium quality, but tho balauco consisted of very prime, cattle. There was little change in prices, cows, however, selling at improved rates. Prime beef made 275. 6d. to -32=.: extra, to. 355.,-medium, 255. to 275.; and cow and inferior, 235. Cd. to 245. 6d. per ICOIta. A small yarding of veal calves sold at 4s. 6tl. to 555. There was a. small yarding of store cattle of mostly poor quality. Fifteen to eightecn-months sorts mado £2 155.; threeyear steers,' £5 12s. 6d.; and dry cows, 16s. to £3 :ss. • There were only three pens of dairy cows offered, and there was a keen demand, for all useful sorts, prices ranging from £3 • 10s. to £9 10=., the general run making £7 10s. to £9. There was a. short entry of pigs and. tho market for. fats opened at tho previous week's rates, but foil away to the • extent of Id. per lb. Choppers made 60s. to 80s., heavy baconers 50s. to 605., and lighter 10s: to 475. 6d. (equal to 4jd. to 4Jd. per lb.); large porkers, 3!;. 6d. to 383. Cd.; lighter. 255. to 3Cs. (equal to 4Jd. to 4Jd. per lb.). The operations of one, largo buyer towards'.the close of the sale assisted to maintain prices from a further fall. There were only a very few stores penned, and for these there was a fair demand, though the quality was only medium. Prices ranged from 12s. to 165., and wcauers made 6s. to lU. 6d.
