THE WEATHER.
FORECAST AND SUMMARY. Present indications are lor cold, cloudy, and unsettled weather generally; rain is probable in most parts of. the .country. Southerly and easterly winda strong to. gale are probable generally, and a very unsteady barometer. A south-easterly gale and heavy rain have ' been reported to-day from. Cape Oampbelland Blenheim, but variable winds and cloudy and changeable weather have prevailed in the north. The barometer has ricon slightly. No reports are available from the East Coast' southward of Kai\oura, owing to telegraphic interruption. DISTRICT REPORTS. (From Our Special Correspondents.) Wanganui, July. 25.—The rain has ceased, but the sky is still overcast and threatening. r'oilding, July 25,-Eain during the day; cold night. Otaki, July 25.—Du11, with occasional heavy showers; weather milder. Masterton, July 25.—The Rev. A. Hodge reported at six o'clock last evening for the previous 24 hours as follows:—Shade temp., max. 55deg.; min. 45deg.; mean 50deg.; earth radiation, 43.5dcg.; earth temperature (lft. below surface), 44deg.; wind, light 8.W.; rain, 3.05 inches in three days, and still falling. Carterton, July 25.—Heavy rain fell hero on Monday, and low-lyin; land was under water, Feathcrston, July 25.—Rain came on again on Monday afternoon, aria , was very heavy throughout the night.
